Hi, my name's Jannelle. I suck at drawing but I love meeting new people. I believe in learning as much as you can about anything that interests you, and I'd much rather risk looking stupid by asking a question than sitting in ignorance; I'd rather be embarrassed but a little smarter than ignorant yet accepted. I am also an art history major; it was amazing to see how the different periods affected not only what was created but how it was created, like how the Renaissance's emphasis on intellect led to the use of linear perspective in most paintings. I'm sure many artists thought that they just used linear perspective because they liked to, not aware of how their personal choice was affected by the grander social movement. It makes you wonder how our society might be affecting our art today without us realizing it; after all, sociology teaches us that only those on the margins of society can see the similarities in society as a whole. Which is why I like to ask questions: why did Monet focus on flowers? What does the sky represent in "Starry Nights"? Fury or beauty? Unfortunately, my curiosity has recently been mistaken as "bickering." I noticed the many users on iScribble have taken to drawing wolves; and by many, I mean that I've seen a myriad of different boards dedicated to them. Since I have not seen such an abundance of wolves elsewhere, not even Deviant Art (maybe I just happened not to see them), I thought the origin was specific to iScribble; perhaps iScribble had a tutorial on how to draw them or had a contest about them. I went into a board asking for tips on how to draw wolves, thinking that anyone who entered a board just to help another would surely help me. However, my question was greeted with irritation; it seems that the answer should have been "obvious" and that asking a question that everyone else knew the answer to was "bickering." I was not aware of this. For me, it just being a coincidence that a noticeable amount of people that just happen to be on iScribble also just happen to like drawing wolves seemed like the least likely answer, but I guess to others it should have been the most likely. Realizing my stupidity, I left the room so as not to bother the participants anymore. I have no problem feeling/looking stupid, but the fact that I annoyed and offended that board fills me with regret. I would never try to offend an artist, and for that I cannot apologize enough. If you were on that board and happen to read this, I know a couple of you said that it was okay, but I am still sorry.
